Brother Derek O'Connell Celebrates Silver Jubilee of Profession
Brother Derek joined the Order in 1982. Having first trained as a nurse he worked in many of the Province's services for people with intellectual disability. Br. Derek went on to study for the priesthood and was ordained a priest of the Order in 2000. While it is unusual for a Brother to be ordained, the Order may allow a Brother who discerns a vocation to the priesthood to be ordained and to minister within the Order'services. Since his ordination Derek has worked as chaplain in Carmona Services for children and adults with intellectual disability and in St. Joseph's Centre for the Elderly. The Jubilee Mass was attended by members of Derek's family, the Brothers and his work colleagues and friends from the Orders' services.
